02. The Snow Queen

In the North where darkness fell, a man wearing a black cape stood in a deserted place. With the snowstorm, a cold wind passed by his cheeks.

The man took off his hood with an irritated face. He had light skin that contrasted with his black hair and red eyes like blood. He also had a dog collar around his neck.

I never thought I’d come to the North on my own.

A sneer flowed through his twisted mouth.

Noelier was currently in a bad mood. No, to be honest, it was a very unpleasant mood. He wants to destroy everything.

It was no exaggeration to say that the heat, which lingered in his body was begging to be cooled down. The heat inside him only intensified with his anger.

“Ha·········.”

Another headache came. It was because he couldn’t sleep for a few days. His red eyes flashed with life.

“Chief.”

A man in a black cloak approached and greeted him politely.

“Did you find her?”

“That’s, not yet….”

“What the hell are you guys doing then?”

A cold but low tone made the man in the black cloak shake in his boots.

“Uhm, but I got one clue.”

“What is it?”

“There was a man who had something similar to Young Miss’s ring.”

Noelier’s eyes sank darkly at the words. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, it is. They told me to bring money because they’ll sell it for 50 million gold.”

Ha. A short laugh burst out. How can you judge someone so recklessly? He was like a Northman who lost his inhibitions. However, it was impossible to blame only the northerners.

Noelier touched his forehead with a groaning sound similar to a sigh.

He recalled that day. It was a day no different than usual. That day, the same heat bothered his body.

His only sister was suffering from a major fever. The hot heat displaced her little body. It was so great that even he couldn’t touch her. Noelier urgently called the doctor at his sister’s cry, but there was nothing he could do.

“Sir, prepare your heart…”

The situation was hopeless enough for the doctor to carefully recommend preparing himself for the worst.

That’s how serious Rachel’s condition was.

Noellier mobilized all the people he could. But there was no hope.

He was desperate to not lose his only sister.

“Brother······?”

Rachel woke up and looked at him.

She, who was suffering from a fever, was in tears. Noelier resented himself for not being able to hug even his sister. He didn’t want to lose Rachel the way they lost their parents because of his uncontrollable power.

When asked if she was sick or if she had any other abnormalities, Rachel shook her head.

“·······I just had a nightmare.”

It was  a terrible nightmare. Rachel said only that.

‘I should have realized the strangeness then.’

Noelier bit his lips. Rachel’s awakening was due to her opposing feelings of joy and discomfort.

‘You must know the legend.’

He quietly raised his hand to his chest. His heartbeat was still hot and light.

The little one secretly left the South and didn’t return for a few days, saying that she would find a new heart and save him. He didn’t think she would have gone to the North, so it was so late to find her. Noelier couldn’t think of what would have been done by those wolf cubs in the wicked North, and the lives of the young would end just by looking at the Northerners the wrong way.

“Where is he now?”

“We have tracked him down and tracked his location, but·······.”

The man was at the end of his speech.

At that hesitation, Noelier narrowed the gap between them. “Did you lose him ?”

“…They are excellent as wolves. I can’t easily approach….”

“That’s ridiculous.”  Noelier quickly cut the horse’s back.

The man, who was infinitely bent in front of the head of a man who was much younger than he, was biting his lips as if he had nothing to say.

“I’m sorry, no matter what, we’re going to…”

 “That’s enough.”

“…”

“I’ll go myself.”

At Noelier’s words, everyone standing around bowed down. Noelier urged those in black cloaks to step back as if to guide them.

The white breath that came out of his beautiful lips scattered through the air.

“A cheeky wolf cub.”

Noelier murmured softly. He was a man who seemed to have nothing against spewing the hot fire within him at anyone who wronged him.

A heart.

It was a miracle to live this long without such a companion. It was proof of his strength.

But what about now? The fire burning at his fingertips was nothing short of able to swallow up the northern part of the country at any time. The chief seemed to intend to release the flames himself to kill the arrogant wolf.

Those watching swallowed dryly. One of the men in the capes thought to himself. Perhaps the fragile relationship between the South and the North will be completely severed today, and this place will become a ruin.

 * * *

“Hey! It’s about time to come out!”

Eve took a deep breath and wiped the sweat off her forehead. Obviously there was a sound that fits that of an apple falling, but none could be seen.

‘Did you hear the sound of a stone breaking?’

How hard are his hellish skull bones? Eve thought so and counted the number of apples left in her basket. There were only three.

“If you’re not a suspicious person, why don’t you come out?”

She spoke politely as if trying to be conciliatory, but the intruder never showed up. The sound of the wind engulfed the silence of the forest.

‘I didn’t want to have to use this power.’

Eve sighed a little and slowly stretched out her hand. She whirled her blizzard in her palm. As it cleared, a sharp icicle appeared on the palm of her hand. Eve focused on finding other sounds that didn’t usually exist in the winter forest. In the still forest, which she had lived in for a long time, she remained calm and listened closely in order to capture other sounds.

It was then a  short roar was heard through her blizzard.

‘There!’

Eve threw an icicle towards where the sound had been heard.

The shadow quickly disappeared over a tree. It didn’t do it in one swift movement, but rather, serveral agile ones. Eve threw ice at the place where she felt the intruder was.

At that moment, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching from behind her.

“This motherfucker!”

Eve quickly turned her body and swung a large rock, that is, her frozen apple. She likes icicles too, but she has better accuracy when attacking with apples.

‘I won’t feel sorry for breaking your head!’

The comment was the result of having learned to deal with numerous intruders.

The thrown apple disappeared into the dark.

Eve smiled quietly. It was a smile that knew the result.

Ack!

Soon she heard something breaking. Heat was accompanied by a low groan.

‘I hit it!’

Eve let out a good laugh inside.

‘Even if I look like this, I was the highest record holder in school shot put!’

Of course, that was in my past life!

Eve took out another apple to keep up the momentum she had gained.

She saw a young man quickly hiding his figure among the trees. It was the perfect time to throw an apple toward him.

Eve’s movement stopped.

‘That’s…!’

Blue lights, seen only in the original story, began to fill the dark winter forest.

“What is this····.”

Rachel was the sister of the Southern Chief. Of course, she thought there would be more than one or two people who were targeting Rachel. But this number was too much. Like–

‘Like Rachel in the novel, when she annihilated the North.’

Huge blue lights.

Eve stepped back, wincing instinctivly. She rememberd a line descibing how she had burned to death in the novel. *

(T/n: her death is only mentioned in one line of novel)

The snowstorm-driven winter forest was melting helplessly in the blazing flames. The fire was getting closer. That was when she gave strength to the hand that held the apple.

“Can I have an apple?”

A cold voice rang behind her back.

She turned away in surprise, but he was faster. Two snakes larger than Eve and a man in a black cape looked down at her.

He had vivid red eyes.

As she knows, those eyes are probably…

“Where is she?”

He asked in a low voice.

Eve wanted to answer, but couldn’t due to the overwhelming heat radiating from his body.
